Discovering Robotics

Mechanically develop robots that move & drive, sense & avoid objects, and pick up items.

In this very hands-on program, participants will put together and wire robots. Robotics and Humans are increasingly co-existing; participants of this program will see first-hand how they can be creators of robots rather than just users. They will also do some coding to customize their robot by changing the colour of lights, sounds, and other robotic features.

Kids (7-11 years old) will build simple robots with few complicated pieces.

Youth (12+ years old) will assemble more complicated robots that may have more features and customizability.

Learning Outcomes

  • Use mechanical tools to assemble robots
  • Learn about various sensors to sense temperature, objects, and other environment variables
  • Learn how to program robots using robotic libraries
  • Work with peers on projects to build communication and teamworking skills
  • Build problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Bring your own laptop with a webcam and microphone (we can arrange one for an extra $50 fee)
  • Compatible devices are Windows and macOS
  • Some coding experience would be a nice-to-have
